Amazing story

On Sunday our very gifted pastor told a story that was just so awe inspiring I had to write it down to others could hear it and know that God is in control. It's probably better to hear it from his mouth instead of my recollection, so you are welcome to listen to the sermon on the church website at churchbcc.org. I know you will be blessed. A Christian woman was living with her husband in Uganda. He happened to be an unbeliever, but she faithfully prayed for him each day. Her husband was a high bank official in the Idi Amin regime, and a new law was being introduced which made it very difficult for him to be married to a Christian woman. The husband decided he would frame his wife of corruption and kill her because of her "dishonesty." He took the keys of the bank down from the nail on the wall, and on his way to work that day he dumped them into the river. The plan was to accuse his wife of stealing the keys and planning to rob the bank when he got home that evening.

Meanwhile, that morning his wife prayed for him like normal and decided she would prepare a special meal for her husband that night. She went down to the market and bought a fish. In Uganda the fist are sold whole, so she got home and began skinning the fish in preparation of the meal. Upon doing so she found her husband's keys inside of the fish. Thinking it extremely odd, she nevertheless returned the keys to their usual post on the wall.

When her husband got home that night he burst through the door and accused his wife of planning on robbing the bank because "they keys are missing from the post." He, of course, had not checked if they were there because he had no reason to believe they would be. His wife said, "Oh, you mean these keys" and pointed her husband in the direction of the hanging keys. He was, of course, in disbelief. His only comment was, "Tell me about your God."

Pastor Richard said he heard this story from a friend who was in Uganda. The story was being relayed by the banker in the story.

So what does this got to do with anything besides being wickedly cool!?

Lately God has been challenging me with Acts 12 where the apostles are fervently praying for Peter's release from prison. When he is actually released and comes to the door they don't believe he is really there! In fact, they insist it is his ghost.

In many ways I am so much like those apostles. I believe that God is amazing and can do great things like free someone from jail or produce keys that were thrown in a river, but I doubt he can really work those kinds of wonders in my own life. I want to have greater faith and trust in God and His power. Thankfully, as Pastor Richard reminded me on Sunday, even though I pray and might be doing so without truly believing it will happen, just like the disciples, God is big enough to handle my doubting heart and still produce answers to prayer.
